We are moving into a new building! We recently finalized and signed a 5 year lease with the option to renew for another 5 years beyond that. It is on 184 Broad Street at the "gate" of the Southside, across from Classical football field. The location gives Renaissance a greater visibility and accessibility to those living on the Southside.
One reason this building is a fulfillment of our mission is the wild diversity of people that surround it. There are homeless folks and hipsters, families and high school students, single moms struggling to survive and young professionals living in lofts, large refugee families and seniors living alone in high rise apartments, college students and young children. Many colors and cultures converge here. God is positioning us to become a "house of prayer for all peoples".
The building itself is quite large. It is over twice the size of our existing 6700 square foot space in its 3 levels. The sanctuary will be on the top floor with large windows overlooking downtown Providence on one side and the football field on the other. The ground level will be mainly cafe/gallery, kids classrooms and bathrooms. The lower basement level has a wide open area for messy art projects and activities and plenty of room for storage.
Because the building has functioned as office space for the Catholic Diocese we have an ambitious plan to transform the space to fit what we do. We want to raise the ceilings, tear down walls, rebuild an ideal layout, install carpets, build a stage, paint interior and exterior and hang better lighting - to name of few things. We are estimating between $80,000 and $120,000 in renovation expenses.
The first people to sacrifice should naturally be the Ren church community. We will provide special colorful envelopes on Sundays but if you'd like to give online you can do that through our website (be sure to type "renovation" in memo).
