Part 1 | Salvation from Fear

Every person has to confront the unknown when it comes to the mystery of death. By extension, that fear drives our desires, as we frantically search for success and meaning and pleasure before it's all over. But God, in His awesome love, did not turn away from the anxiety of death—He willingly took on its reality when He entered into human existence in the person of Jesus Christ.

You were meant for something great. For something beautiful. But the hold of sin in our lives and the oppressive group think of modern life has caged the human soul, so that all we expect out of our futures is a nicely arranged career of mediocre success and comfort. The arrival of Jesus is the story of God re-lighting humanity with the bright fire of His salvation, as He frees us from the shackles of selfish living.

In the final part of his Advent series, Pastor Scott observes: "If you don't have joy, you can't help anyone." The coming of God's salvation, prophesied ages ago, heralds redemption not only for individuals, but for all of human history. The light of Jesus inside each of us becomes the promised "light that breaks forth like the dawn," as God's church marches on for the spread of His healing kingdom.
